Mechanical Seal & Industry Training

This course is specifically designed to cover Mechanical Seal designs and operational requirements for API Pharmaceutical manufacturing.

This course is an ideal introduction for all mechanical maintenance personnel, particularly those responsible for the maintenance and operation of critical assets. Including electricians, general operatives, apprentices, operations management, supervisors, stores department, etc., orxd as a refresher for engineering personnel responsible for equipment reliability and maintenance budgets. This course when complete will help improve mechanical seal performance and in turn improve equipment reliability while reducing maintenance costs.

Course Objectives  

After attending this course, you will: 

• You will have a good understanding of Mechanical Seals for Pharmaceutical API manufacturing   

• Understand basic pump designs and running conditions  

• You will understand how Mechanical Seals work and the conditions that improve seal life 

• Seal development from component to cartridge seal  

• Understand the importance of Fluid Film in single and double seals 

• Seal Material selection and FDA regulations in the pharmaceutical sector  

• The importance of Seal face flatness and how it is measured 

• You will understand the different types of Seal support systems, barrier fluid selection, and how to identify the potential risk of process contamination. 

•  You will learn about cGMP for Mixer, Reactor, and Filter Dryer seal applications  

•  Understanding Mechanical seal installation best practices for pumps and mixers 

•  Q&A sessions sharing knowledge and experience 

What you will learn 

This mechanical seal training course is tailored specifically for the pharmaceutical sector and API manufacturing. The basic course can be completed in one day. However, if you require more in-depth and specific training on specific equipment or for apprentices or new starters this is normally covered over a 2-day training workshop. 

The course commences with classroom sessions in the morning, taking participants through the mechanical seals used in the pharmaceutical sector, material selections, and industry regulations.  Basics outlined how pumps work and the running condition  that affect mechanical seal performance. This session is fully interactive, encouraging participation engagement throughout. 

The afternoon is taken up with some practical sessions, demonstrating and allowing attendees to perform common and basic tasks required for everyday operation.  

The final session covers Seal Support Systems, Barrier Fluid Selection, Mixer, Reactor, Filter Dryer seal applications. We will also cover cGMP identifying areas of potential risk of process contamination and finally best practices in mechanical seal pressure testing and installation.

Today John runs his consultancy and training business offering best practices and independent mechanical seal consultancy, working with all seal manufacturers.
